Andre Gomes has committed his long-term future to Everton.
Everton have tied up a second signing of the summer, completing a move to sign loanee Andre Gomes on a permanent basis from Barcelona.
The Toffees swooped to land Gomes on loan last summer, becoming the third Barcelona player to join the club after Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina.
Whilst those two were permanent signings from the off, Gomes was only on loan, attempting to get back to his best after two frustrating seasons at Barcelona.
Gomes did that, impressing under Marco Silva at Goodison Park whilst becoming a key part of his midfield, and many Everton fans wanted him to sign permanently.
There were links to Premier League rivals, but Gomes has now joined Everton on a five-year deal, meaning the Toffees should see his best years given that the contract takes him up to age 30.
After making his move, Barcelona wished Gomes the best of luck on Twitter, and the Portuguese star replied, admitting that it was ‘an honour’ to play for the Catalan giants whilst thanking them.
Everton confirmed that the price was just £22million, with many believing it to be an absolute bargain for Marcel Brands and co, especially as some Championship players are being valued similarly.
Ex-Everton ace Michael Ball has now taken to Twitter to praise Brands for his bargain signing, and can’t wait to see Gomes with a full pre-season behind him, believing he may be even better than last season as he only made his first start in October.
What a bargain in this day in age. £22M.
Congrats to the club & Marcel 👍
